A {Cozy} Winter ONEderland 1st Birthday

I am always sad to say ‘goodbye’ to Fall but I gladly welcome the coziness of winter when it hits (especially SNOW DAYS!!) Winter can bring so much outdoor fun for kids, so when I saw this adorable Winter ONEderland 1st Birthday Party from Gwynn Wasson Designs, I was smitten! Little Beckett is downright precious sitting in that artificial snow (see below.) California deserves a “snow day” too, right!? And I especially love the red and teal combo that captures the coziness of winter (blue) but the fun of a 1st birthday (red.)

I must say, this is one of the most elaborate party entryways I have ever seen and I’m in love! The penguins standing at attention to greet guests could not be any cuter. Gwynn says:

As our guests arrived, I wanted them to feel like they were truly being transported into a magical wintery wonderland, so I created a whole welcoming committee of penguins, each holding a darling polka-dotted balloon to greet them. Over our driveway I made a huge welcome sign and softened this with beautiful snowflake printed gossamer and paper snowflakes.

The dessert table is always a highlight at any party, especially a KIDS party! What kid doesn’t head straight for the cookies? I am such a fan of cohesiveness so I love how the dessert table coordinates with the invitation, printables and signage! And oh my goodness, the darling polar bear and penguin cookies sliding down the slopes… perfection! From the cake pops to the rock candy to the cupcakes, this table didn’t miss a beat. I also love how the lollipops bring a pop of yellow to the table to balance the overall look. Like the printable cupcake toppers? You can find them in Gwynn’s Etsy Shop here along with the complete Winter ONEderland collection (also available in blue!)

Although Beckett was undoubtedly the star of his party, he did share center stage with the “snow”. I searched and searched and although I briefly considered the shaved ice/fake snow route, I eventually discovered Sno-Wonder – 99% water, bio-degradable, environmentally safe and a lot cheaper than shaved ice. (It’s primarily used for indoor snowboarding parks in Japan.) My husband was sweet enough to build a large frame (kind of like a giant sandbox). We covered it with polyester batting to look more like snow, lined it with a white tarp and then filled it with “snow” and dozens of penguin beach balls. To add to our wintery theme, I decorated our playhouse with red and white flowers, a little snow, and wreath and dubbed it ‘Chalet Becks’ for the day. The kids had an absolute blast!! Snow fights and snow angels. Tons of laughter and buckets of giggles!!
